Ah what can i say, being a student and a podcaster at the same time is one hell of a job. It's hard. Basically, your podcast will always have to come 2nd no matter what, and that is not a good thing to have in mind every time you go to bed at night. Nevertheless, it's this hectic life that makes Bento Bureau special to us. Special in what we have learned, special in who we have met, and how do we think about our project. Today, We would like to share some of these special things with you.
We ended our spring semester earlier this year with an episode with Cordell Rankin and Greico Kelly, two former US-servicemen who are now living civilian life in Japan. It was an amazing experience to talk to Cordell and Greico. One thing for sure is that we did not have the audio quality that we strive for when recording the episode. For this episode, we invited Cordell and Greico to our good old "recording room," an empty classroom in the basement of our university (insert nerds and basement jokes). If you look at the picture, you will see that Bastian was using a completely different microphone from all of us: a condenser mic, a type of mic that people use for studio recording. This means that every single noise in this tiny room was picked up by that mic. Needless to say, the result of our recording reflects this problem clearly with the amount of background noise and reverb heard throughout the episode.
And so with the episode wrapped up, we also completed our semester at university. It was a short spring we all felt, yet it was also the last spring we would share with Bastian and Ichi on our team. Starting from this fall, both of our boys began their graduate programs in the UK and left their spots in Bento Bureau vacant; well, technically. We have plans that will include Bastian and perhaps Ichi as well, but seeing that they are busy with their study, these plans will have to be put on hold at the moment.
Summer came and went, now the leaves are falling. In the next story, we will share how we returned to a new semester with Bento Bureau.
